The Frigidaire FAA086P7A is an 8,000 BTU window air conditioner capable of cooling rooms of about 500 square feet. according to the Frigidaire website, though we would recommend this for a smaller room of about 350 square feet instead.

The Frigidaire FAA086P7A has a full feature set, including electronic readout, timer, sleep mode and an energy saver mode. The remote control also sports a built-in thermostat that will relay the temperature from its position to the main unit. This is particularly helpful in larger rooms as it prevents the compressor from switching off if the main unit detects the desired temperature has been met in the immediate area surrounding the unit.

While the Frigidaire FAA086P7A can be purchased for about $170 at the time of this posting, making it much cheaper than the comparable Energy Star Rated GE AEM08FM, it is not without its shortcomings.

Potenital buyers should note this unit lacks a vent to let in outside air. This unit also uses the auger style louvers for air direction which we find to be rather clumsy and ineffective. The primary transgression of this unit, however, is the noise levels. Frigidaire reports the sound level to be about 62 decibels when in full swing, about the loudness of a conversation. Even so, a great majority of users have reported this unit is simply too loud to live with, despite the fact that it does indeed cool effectively and efficiently.
