The Frigidaire FAC106P1A Window Air Conditioner

A Analysis

The Energy Star Rated Frigidaire FAC106P1A is a 10,000 BTU air conditioner capable of cooling a space of around 475 square feet. It is a heavier window mounted unit and we recommend installing this with the help of a friend.

This unit is actually an upgrade from the now discontinued FAC109S1A. This is a boon for consumers as the Frigidaire FAC106P1A now includes an ionizing air cleaner as well as a remote with a digital readout for an internal thermostat at a MSRP of $20 cheaper than the previous model. The remote thermostat relays the temperature from its position to the main unit. This is particularly helpful in larger rooms as it prevents the compressor from switching off if the main unit detects the desired temperature has been met in the immediate area surrounding the unit.

Some people have complained about the noise this unit generates, but based on the data available on Frigidaire's website, the Frigidaire FAC106P1A is actually quieter than the FAA086P7A, even at 2,000 BTU more capacity. Still, there some smaller issues we would like to see further improved. This unit does not have a vent and uses the auger style left-right louvers we find ineffective.

At the time of this posting we were able to find the Frigidaire FAC106P1A for $350 delivered, which is more or less comparable to the delivered price of the GE AEM10AM. The GE has 500 more BTUs capacity and operates less noisily than this unit. However, the Frigidaire edges out with a marginally cheaper price, a much better remote and an ionizing air filter. However, if noise is your primary concern, we'd go with the GE model. In the end, both are solid, well reviewed units that should satisfy your climate control needs.
