The Frigidaire FAC124P1A is a 12,000 BTU unit that can cool a space of around 550 square feet. A favorite among reviewers, this unit is inexpensive when compared to other brands at this capacity. Note that this unit is quite heavy and the help of a friend for installation is recommended.

Given the capacity of this unity, we were please to find that it is narrower than comparable units, which can be helpful if you live in an older house with smaller windows. This unit comes with an electronic thermostat with timer, sleep and an energy saver mode in which the fan and compressor cycle on and off together. The result is utter silence when it's off and some users have reported it to be slightly jarring when it turns back on, especially if this is used in a bedroom application.

If there is anything to complain about the Frigidaire FAC124P1A, users do seem to focus on the noise levels, though according to Frigidaire's specifications on the unit this is only a few decibels louder than a typical conversation. We also do not like the louvers for directing airflow and find them to be rather ineffective.

At the time of this posting we were able to find the Frigidaire FAC124P1A for about $320 delivered. This makes it about the same price as the enhanced Frigidaire FAC126P1A which also features better efficiency, a remote thermostat with digital readout, and an ionizing air filter. Alas, the Frigidaire FAC124P1A is a solid, bargain-priced unit, but we just can't pass up the better features of the FAC126P1A for the same price!
