The GE AEM08FM is a fixed chassis system that, while weighing in at 54 pounds can be easily window mounted with the included EZ Mount Window Kit. Note that this type of unit should not be used in through-the-wall applications.

We found the GE AEM08FM a little louder than the 6,000 BTU model, but directed airflow better. Like other GE air conditioners we found that although it is relatively small in size compared to other 8,000 BTU units, it was still quite feature-rich. The GE AEM08FM can capably and quietly cool rooms of about 350 square feet and the electronic controls, programmable timer and remote are easy and intuitive to set up and utilize. The dehumidifier on this model removes 2 pints of moisture from the air per hour which is a big plus if you live in an area with high humidity.

This Energy Star rated unit also boasts an Energy Saver Mode in which the compressor and fan cycle on and off simultaneously causing wider variations in temperature and humidity. While this will generally still maintain comfort levels, GE recommends this setting for when a room is unoccupied.

The suggested retail price for the GE AEM08FM is $299, which would make this definitively expensive amongst its peers, but we were able to locate it for as low as $220. For an air conditioner this feature-rich, this is a good value and potential buyers should give this unit serious consideration at this price point.
