The GE AEM12AM is an Energy Star Rated wall air conditioner that can cool an area of about 550 Square feet. It is fully featured as other GE air conditioners, with electronic and remote controls, automatic thermostat and a 24 hour timer.

The GE AEM12AM is significantly smaller than the 13,700 BTU AEM14AM and although it is a whopping 42 pounds lighter! We were also surprised to find this is the exact same weight as the smaller 10,000 BTU AEM10AM. Even so, we still recommend installing this unit with the help of a friend.

The GE AEM12AM is also quite reasonable priced. At the time of this posting, we were able to find this unit for as little as $292. Compared to the larger unit, this is an absolute steal if you don't absolutely need the extra capacity.

Not only is this unit markedly cheaper to buy (to the tune of $70), it is also has a marginally higher EER and is therefore slightly cheaper to operate and a whole lot cheaper to ship if you are buying online! We also prefer the top mounted discharge louvers on this model over the larger model's design, which has them off to one side of the front face.
