This model features air discharge louvers on one side of the front face of the unit instead of along the top. With another feature termed Auto Circulaire, the louvers swivel left and right automatically. GE proposes that this setup creates a cooler and more even temperature, but suggests that it should be turned off when the desired temperature is obtained.

The GE AEM14AM is large, heavy and expensive. At the time of this posting the best price we could find for this unit online was $362. At this price, it is hard to recommend this unit over the smaller capacity AEM12AM.

In contrast to the GE AEM14AM the AEM12AM is smaller, lighter, and significantly cheaper. While the 12,000 BTU output of this lesser system is only 12% less than the one showcased here, we find that despite the benefits of the Auto Circulaire feature, units that discharge from one side of the front face can be awkward in less than ideal installation circumstances. We prefer the top discharge instead.
