The energy star rated Kenmore 75051 is another small fully featured, small, single-room window unit that is a favorite among consumers. The bad news is that while this is a capable unit, it falls short by a hair when compared to its peers. The good news is tht there are tons of options for buyers at this BTU and price point.

First, we must point out that the Kenmore 75051 is a very capable unit in its own right. We have found buyers generally have only good things to say of this unit's performance. The electric controls are simple and easy to use, installation for this small unit is a breeze and the energy star rating ensures that you aren't spending more money on operating costs than you need to.

The Kenmore 75051 also features a energy saver mode in which the unit cycles on and off every 3 minutes to check the ambient air temperature and determine if cooling is needed. This can potentially become annoying, some people have reported, although generally this setting is only used at night or in concert with the included 12 hour timer.

That said, we find the 12 hour timer to be ridiculous, as you have to interact with it every time you need to utilize that function. You can't just set it and forget it as with a 24 hour timer. This is a major drawback and considering the electronic controls it is a wonder why this clear flaw wasn't fixed.

The fact that the Kenmore 75051 only has 2 fan and cooling settings is yet another fault. The comparably sized Frigidaire FAA055P7A has 3 settings for each, costs about the same price, has a slightly higher EER and includes that glorious 24 hour timer. We also found the controls on the Frigidaire FAA055P7A to be slightly more intuitive for when you are fumbling around in the dark.

Neither system is perfect, however. Both systems lack a vent, and if you are willing to forego the bells and whistles, the Kenmore 75050 is 33% cheaper than either other these systems and is equally loved its owners. At the end of the day the Kenmore 75051 is a capable unit, but its few flaws are more than minor and don't exist in the comparable competition's units.
