The LG air conditioners we know today were originally manufactured under the Goldstar brand of the Goldstar Company which was founded in 1958. The company manufactured small consumer electronics such as television and radios as well as larger home appliances including washing machines, air conditioners and refrigerators. Goldstar, in connection with Hyundai, even sold tractors in 1975!

The LG brand produces everything from flashy plasma flat panel televisions to cell phones and, of course, LG air conditioners. The brand name exudes high-end functionality coupled with clean and appealing styling.

The company name was changed to LG Electronics in 1995 as the result of a merger with another Korean company named Lucky. The "Lucky-Goldstar" union was shortened to LG. The popular company slogan "Life's Good" was actually conceived at a much later point in the company's existence.

LG also acquired a controlling share of the Zenith corporation in that same year, and then completely bought out the company in 1999. LG was a Top 100 global brand in 2005, reporting high growth and brand loyalty. The division of LG air conditioners has a decidedly more Asian market focus and actually manufactures a great deal of ductless mini split units which are rare to find in the United States. Most notably, their ARTCOOL series allows users to disguise their air conditioners as picture frames for their favorite works of art.
